House exterior with a technician

You do not need to tackle everything at once. Start with a walk through the kitchen, utility areas, and outside of your home. Look for food, moisture, and gaps that might attract unwanted visitors.

1. Put food out of easy reach

Keep pantry staples in closed containers, wipe up crumbs and spills, and empty indoor rubbish regularly. Include pet-food storage and feeding areas in your routine.

2. Notice where moisture collects

Check beneath sinks and around appliances for drips or damp patches. Arrange repairs for leaks and keep gutters and drainage areas clear of debris.

3. Check doors and screens

Look for damaged screens, worn door sweeps, and visible gaps around utility openings. Make a list of repairs. If you suspect animals are already inside an opening, ask for an inspection before sealing it.

4. Tidy the space beside the house

Keep stored items organized so the foundation remains accessible for inspection. Remove accumulated debris and trim vegetation that makes it difficult to see the exterior.

5. Keep track of what you notice

If you see repeated activity, note the location and time, and take a photo when practical. That information helps a pest professional understand the pattern and discuss next steps.
